In this Episode of All1nclusive Tracy and Meenal are discussing the audio recordings that were leaked to the press, revealing Police Officers casually using offensive racial slurs and offensive language whilst working in holding cells. They reveal their shock and concern at the audio recordings and discuss the potential impact on the community as a whole. Whistle-blower Steve Marshall captures multiple discussions which he leaked to the press after repeated complaints through formal channels were never taken seriously. Tracy and Meenal explore the question, is racism an inherent cultural problem in the police force today? WARNING the story has offensive language.
And in another story we are reminded that you can't tar all police with the same brush. Tracy shares the beautiful story and heart warming moment between officers and the public, as video footage of two police officers getting their groove on at an African Community Event in South Adelaide goes viral. Tracy comments on how this is how modern day policing should be- interacting and connecting with the community. After all they are there to serve and protect everyone in the community.
In this week's What would YOU do? Tracy describes microaggressions using the example of a situation where you might compliment someone on how articulate they sound speaking English because they are black. Without knowing their background ie whether or not they were born in an English speaking country or their educational background - this can perpetuate a stereotype that because they are black they are not as well educated or articulate. So maybe not really the compliment you might think it is.
