Artists go independent for several reasons, and in this video, I want to talk about some of them. Often, artists who were signed to a major label go independent after having creative differences with their label. This has happened with artists including Lauren Jauregui, who left Columbia and Epic, Tinashe who left RCA, Mya who left Universal, and Frank Ocean who left Def Jam. There are also artists like Taylor Swift, Adele, Childish Gambino, and PinkPantheress started off under independent labels, and later signed with major labels. Other artists, like Chance the Rapper and Arctic Monkeys have been independent their entire career. With the rise of streaming services like YouTube and Spotify, it's yet to be seen inf the independent music industry will eventually eclipse the major labels. It seems this could very well be likely.
