01:16 The top artists by the numbers
09:43 Conclusion
So 2022 is coming to an end and I think we’re in the middle of an interesting place in the music industry right now. A lot of the superstars that defined the last 10 years of music aren’t getting old exactly but they’re not as ambitious with their musical output anymore. The big stars? They’ve already had their run of number 1 albums, their critical acclaim, they’re not trying to “conquer” anymore. So you have this void where the new generation of superstars is still ramping up and figuring out what their career is gonna look like, the current superstars are either absent or not chasing big hits right now. From Drake’s Honestly Nevermind to Kendrick’s Mr. Morale and J Coles The Fall Off being just kind of quieter, more lowkey, less commercially ambitious albums to Kanye going off the rails in terms of album quality and Travis Scott and ASAP Rocky being under the radar for the past 4+ years and someone like Post Malone who was once a major force in music pretty much giving up on his albums…I really do think we’re in a lull right now in terms of superstar artists actually putting out music. At the same time we’re also dealing with the lost potential of all the insanely popular young stars who’ve died in the last few years from X and Juice Wrld to Pop Smoke and King Von and how those artists who WERE on the way up just don’t have any music left to be released. So in this video I just wanna look at the actual real hard numbers and see what can we learn about where music is right now, where it’s gonna be going in the next few years and which artists are really here to stay.
