Designer and creative technologist, Devin Mancuso works with Google’s Platforms and Ecosystems group to help shape the future of products and services for billions of users across the globe. Previously, he was the UX Design Lead for YouTube’s VR/AR team and has had the privilege of contributing to products across Google, including Android, Pixel, YouTube and Daydream.
A new breed of influencer is in our feeds, indistinguishable and just as influential. The era of the Virtual Influencer is now upon us. Today, we find ourselves grappling with unprecedented levels of fake news, propaganda and disinformation – more than ever before we are questioning the motivations driving the influencers in our feeds. In this talk we will discuss the increasing role these virtual personalities are playing across our social platforms, ultimately returning to the question: who are we comfortable influencing us and does it matter if they’re not real?
