Tiger Woods is without a full-time caddy, throwing the golf world into a spiral as fans struggle with the terrifying possibility that the game's most outstanding player has reached the end of his career.

The 68-year-old caddy has temporarily stood down and will caddie Patrick Cantlay. It's a scenario that appears disturbingly similar to the one that strained Woods' relationship with his former caddy, Steve Williams. Will history, however, repeat itself?

But wait a minute, why has the professional golfer made such a radical decision? Let's get started.

Most caddy changes on the PGA Tour are scarcely noticed, but Joe LaCava's transfer this week seems seismic in the golfing scene, maybe signaling the end of Woods' competitive playing days. LaCava, who has been faithful to Woods throughout his most difficult years and was rewarded with the 2019 Masters victory, will now caddy for the famously slow golfer Patrick Cantlay. The change is permanent, and it was approved by Woods, who is recovering from his most recent operation after withdrawing from the Masters due to plantar fasciitis.

According to individuals close to the issue, LaCava's choice to caddy for Patrick Cantlay was challenging.

Cantlay is a budding PGA Tour player who won several tournaments, including the Tour Championship in 2022. Cantlay, on the other hand, has yet to attain the kind of success that Tiger Woods has, and some assume that LaCava is looking for a new challenge.

Another version holds that Joe LaCava's choice was motivated by financial concerns. Caddies on the PGA Tour can make a lot of money, and LaCava may have seen a chance to improve his profits by caddying for Cantlay.

According to PGA Tour insider Dan Rapaport, LaCava phoned Woods shortly after receiving Cantlay's offer.
